Salvador Martorel i Ollé (1895-1968)
He was born in La Canonja, and began his apprenticeship as a sculptor at the Arana i Bru workshop in Tarragona. In 1914 he moved to Barcelona and joined the shool of Fine Arts. In 1917 he showed his fisrt weorks in Barcelona and Tarragona for studies in Spain and France. In 1925 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Decorative Arts Exibition of Paris and in 1929, the Gold Medal of the International Exibition of Barcelona. In 1932, he became a professor at the Tarragona School of Arts. His art stays within the classical rules, a mixture of the Greek and Roman precepts with discreet lines and a moderate sensuality.
