Josep Sancho i Piqué (1872-1959)
Born in Marçà (Priorat), he joined the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona at seventeen, and became a fellow of Joaquim Mir and Isidre Nonell, later joining the workshop of Lluís Graner. In 1896 he exibited his works in the Sala Parés, and participated in other exhibitions in the same town during the following years. In 1915 he started his own drawing school in Tarragona. From 1936 to 1939, he was devoted to the production of a set of drawings on the war.
He died in Marçà.
He chose mostly anecdotal themes and portrit. His composition are notorius, always following an academicism. He mastered the drawing, pastel and charcoal techniques.
